These are the so called hyperactive children, but as parents, you do take cognizance that kids will be kids and that such busy bee activities are part and parcel of their growing up and huge capacity for learning new things. Physicians however have detected a certain recurrence in certain traits which they says are symptomatic of a much deeper psychological malaise in the form of what was previously known as Attention Deficit Disorder. In short, ADD.
Found sometime in the mid 1920’s , ADD is now defined as ADHD, with the word Hyperactivity inserted within the acronym. Amongst the symptoms to watch out includes a tendency for extreme impulsiveness, of going ahead in doing something without worrying about its consequences, of being highly charged up in going from one activity to another, criss crossing between conversations, extreme hyperactivity and restlessness in the behaviors, not being able to sit still, fidgety and yet, highly inattentive at the same time and of equal measure. Notice that the operative word here is extreme as these traits are also evident in all children but that they would have their ups and downs.
Most of us would like to dismiss these are mere signs of children growing up at a way too fast a rate. Physicians however have detected some particularly disturbing behavioral traits in the children afflicted by ADHD especially where attentiveness is concern. They just lack the concentration needed to operate efficiently in classes, and their span of attentiveness is a stretch, the very act that many of them would do to keep themselves awake, possibly. Most often these children can be caught in a state of day dreaming. However, physicians nonetheless concur that medically, there is nothing wrong with them in that this is not a case of brain nor any other physical damage. In fact, such traits could even be inherited genetically.
The main concern of ADHD affliction is that they are chronic signs in their symptoms, with a certain persistence in the afflicted child. Those afflicted are mainly boys who outnumber their fairer sex in developing the said disorder. A good news in all this is nonetheless the empirical findings that most of the children afflicted by ADHD would outgrow them as they go into adulthood, although a few would carry them throughout their life and exhibit the same behavioral traits even in their workplace.
Physicians offer not only stimulants such as the widely available Adderall to treat ADHD, but also recommends the cross treatment of counseling, behavioral study and discussion with a view of changing of the children, and their parents correspondingly, lifestyle in order to treat the symptoms effectively. The stimulant has noticeably some effect on the children however as as such an alternative is available in Vyvanse which have the added advantage in being consumed with or without food.
